It’s the 20th anniversay of Nas‘ Illmatic album and reason enough to celebrate one of hip hop’s most legendary albums with a documentary film. In 1994 this album was a game changer because a little kid from Queens opened up about gang rivalries, desolation and the ravages of urban poverty. Nas who was around 20 years old when it released, depicted his own experiences and brought them to life with what some call a mix of poetry and rap. Nas now releases Illmatic XX a remastered version of the album and an extra disc of demos, remixes, and unreleased records from that era of Nas’ career.
